Wedding storytelling for Rainbow Beach wedding photography.

We love to capture entire wedding days for couples. This often means working through till late in the night when all the fun begins. This wedding for Aimee and Craig at Rainbow Beach was fun. Their wedding prep was at the Plantation Resort at Rainbow Beach and then it was an hour drive up the coast to Poona for their wedding ceremony before returning to the Rainbow Beach Surf Club for the reception.

Beautiful Fraser Island Wedding at Orchid Beach and Waddy Point for unique wedding photography

Andrew and Natalie had a wonderful destination wedding on a remote beach on world famous Fraser Island recently and booked me for their wedding photography. I’m fortunate to be booked for Fraser Island wedding photography often and Ive photographed many weddings on the island over 20+ years.

I boarded an Air Fraser Island plane at Hervey Bay and flew with celebrant John Borg to the northern end of the island. We had a smooth flight out over the Great Sandy Straight, across Moon Point on the western side of the island and landed at the grass airstrip at Orchid Beach where Andrew’s father was there to take us to the prep and ceremony locations.

The guests for the wedding numbered about 40 and all made the long journey to Fraser Island from Brisbane and afar via 4wd the week before to have a wonderful 2 week wedding celebration and some great fishing.

Wedding prep was at a couple of houses at the small Orchid Beach community and Andrew’s groomsmen took had fun stirring him about his nasty hangover from the previous nights’ celebrations.

Natalie was helped prepare by her sister, mum, Bridesmaids and she also had two Men of Honour for something a little different from a standard wedding party.

Once everyone was prepped we all were driven down the sandy bush trails and onto the sweeping beach for a run along the seashore to Waddy Point for the wedding ceremony location. The lovely ceremony was picture perfect with beach, ocean and blue skies as the perfect backdrop. The ceremony ended with a final surprize announcement of the gender of their expectant baby and the unwrapping of baby’s first fishing rod much to the enjoyment and laughter of all the guests.

Then it was a climb up the hill at Waddy Point for some unique formal wedding photography. Andrew helped his new wife scale the steep dirt track and arrived at the top without a trace of dirt on her gorgeous wedding dress. Pushed for time to make it back to the plane I worked quickly to make some lovely photos for the couple and we then scurried down the steep cliff to catch a ride back along the beach and up to the airstrip where I bid everyone farewell and jumped into the plane with celerbrant John Borg for the short flight back to Hervey Bay.

Please get in touch if you are considering Fraser Island wedding photography or looking for a Brisbane wedding photographer or Sunshine Coast wedding photographer. You can have your entire day and reception covered or I can custom design coverage to suit your needs as I did for Natalie and Andrew.

Choosing the best wedding reception venue

There is so much more to choosing a wedding venue in Hervey Bay, Maryborough and Bundaberg region than its location and menu.

By John Wilson - Award winning Hervey Bay wedding photographer

I’ve been photographing weddings for more than 20 years in Australia and internationally. I’ve seen a lot of reception venues both formal and informal. I’ve experienced all the joy and fun when a reception venue really hits the mark and the dance floor is pumping well into the night. I’ve also seen venues that don’t work well and this can be a real wedding reception dampener, and an early night.

By John Wilson - Award winning Hervey Bay wedding photographer

What happens when you spend the best part of a year or more planning your wedding and then once the big day is over you get told there are no photos. This was the situation Italian couple Eva and Marco found themselves in recently. A heartbroken Eva contacted me one evening asking if I could recreate some wedding photography for them when they come to Australia to see some family. I suggested a few ideas and we planned a full formal wedding photography session to take in some rural and coastal locations around Hervey Bay and Maryborough.
